Unknown gunmen are said to have invaded Nnobi in Idemili
South local government area of Anambra State.
Legitblog learned that the attack happened on Monday evening,
around 8:30 p.m.
According to a source, the gunmen, who are thought to be
cultists, were moving from one location to another while shooting.
Meanwhile, Maxi Ifedinma, a Facebook user, confirmed in a
post that the same gunmen had killed two people near Roban Stores in Nnewi.
In a comment posted under his post at 9 p.m., Mazi Ifedinma
said, “the corpses of the dead persons are still lying there now.”
Insecurity is a challenge that has continued to prove so
difficult to tackle in Nigeria. At least 43 people were killed in various
attacks by non-state actors across the country last week (January 30 – February
5).
Four of those killed were security personnel – three police
officers and one soldier – while the rest were civilians including one
traditional ruler.
The figure for the week signifies an increase by about 50
percent when compared to the previous week where at least 25 people were
killed.
Four geopolitical zones recorded at least one incident while
the northeast and South-west zones had no reported incident.
