The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) apprehended Maduabuchi Chinedu, a 32-year-old Liberian suspected drug trafficker, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA) with 9.30 kilograms of cocaine worth over N2.7 billion in market value.
The suspect, who is from Obaha Okigwe village in the Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State, is a miner in Liberia.

The suspect was detained during an internal joint check of Ethiopian Airlines aircraft 911 at the Abuja airport on Wednesday, November 24, 2021, with 9.30kg cocaine packaged in sweets wrapping and stowed in his luggage, according to NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi.
"During his preliminary interrogation, Chinedu stated that he fled Nigeria in 2018 and settled in Liberia, where he currently has a resident visa."
"Economic pressures and the need to gather money to cure his mother for an eye condition drove him to seek aid from a friend in Liberia, who linked him to another acquaintance in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, who finally provided him the medicine to deliver in Abuja for a cost of N1 million," he continued.
"He went on to say that he was supposed to deliver the medication in Ivory Coast but was redirected to Nigeria at the last minute," Babafemi claimed.
Chairman/Chief Executive, NDLEA, Brig-Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), praised the officers and men of the agency's NAIA Command for their vigilance and coordination with other security agencies at the airport and charged them and their colleagues in other commands to always be two steps ahead of drug traffickers who are daily becoming more desperate to make money at the expense of the country's image.
