...I had gone to see mom,but met her absence,my step father was home,we weren't close,my step siblings and I weren't much of friends either..
I needed a little help from mom,I was broke and was in desperate need of money for my toiletries and some other vital....
I didn't want to be much of a burden to grandma, she has really tired for me,days back she had given me money for a new uniform,as my previous one is way too short,I didn't want to ask for too much....
What should I do,I thought within me,go to dad of course, he should be of help,it's actually been long I had asked him for any form of help.....
As I walked to dad's place,I reminisced about my life so far.
I had completed my secondary school education 6 years ago,yes you heard me,6 years ago,I was 19,I finished way too late, but no fault of mine,my parent's separation had played a major set back in my life, there were times I had skipped exams because my mom couldn't afford my fees, neither was my dad available to take responsibility.
My parent had separated when I was very young,at age 4 precisely....my mom didn't hesitate before she remarried in less than 2 years leaving me behind with my granny....
There were times I had wished she took me along with her to her new home, she rarely visited me,she officially made me grandma's responsibility.....
About two years latter, father also took a new bride..I had lived all my life with grandma, she has been the one with me at every important time of my life. ...
I had never had my both parents present for me at any point...life was meaningless, even though grandma tried all she could to make me see the beauty of life,I still felt bad for myself, especially when I see my friends accompanied by either both or one of thier parent during school's parties....
When I graduated high school, grandma gave me some money to register for Jamb,I didn't get the average mark,I was just 1 mark away from 200,I had scored 199, I was very sad,but granny encouraged me,that better days were ahead.....
The following year,I studied twice as I had done,I wanted to make grandma proud, soon it was the day for the exams,I did my very best, and when the results came,I had scored 235, thankfully that was above the Average..
I also registered for post examination, and then I was granted admittion to study my preferred course...
I happily informed mom of the latest development, that I had been granted admission. Her husband was there with her when I happily disclosed the news,at first she was happy for me,untill her husband spoke....
Hope you know you won't be adding a penny to that addmision and schooling saga, I didn't open a business shop for you to train a child whose father is still alive,so while you are both happy, also think of where the finance is going to come from,he said, hissed and walked away.....
I just starred at him,and wondered how one could be so evil....
Hmmmmmm, you see, he's right,I am happy you studied hard and got admitted to a prestigious university, the truth is I can't sponsor your education,,, Clement opened that shop for me to be able to contribute my own quarter to the family, like feeding, and helping out when he isn't financially capable, mother said....
I was shocked to hear such words from my own mother...for heaven's sake,I am her child too,her flesh and blood, her first seed, why would she say that,I thought within me,she held my hands and said, hope you understand me my child,I shook my head slowly...
Well thank God I still have a father indeed,I politely told mom I was leaving, she knew I was leaving because of her bluntly telling me she had no hand in my education, even though I had denied when she asked...
No matter what,at least father would see me through school,I said relieved and hopeful,..but getting to dad's I heard the shock of my life...
Oh my daughter, you have made me proud, you have done well,he said.but unfortunately this your admission is coming the wrong time, business has been very bad, ohhh,if it were last year,I would have paid everything at once, this year is somehow, nevertheless, you are my daughter and I can not run away from my responsibility, you would have to wait for next year,or next two years, and write again,by then I should be capable of taking care of things,,,I looked at him with hot tears rolling down my cheeks, indeed I knew I was doomed...
Father you can't do this to me,I had said,I am 21, already behind time,I finished high school late already, some of my mate are already graduate at 21, waiting for the next two years will make me 23 plus, what if I am not even giving the admission then, what would I do,,you have to do something father I had said cried....
There is no lateness with education, you can go to school at 25,27,30,or even 40,he had said...and as for been giving admission or not,you would just have to study hard, and you shall be granted admission he said, then I knew his mind was made up,I stood up and went home in tears...
I got home and told Grandma about my day's experience, she was angry at both her daughter,my mother, and father, asking why they would have to treat me this way.....
She didn't ask to be born for God's sake, how could this two be wicked on their own child, she kept asking....
I prayed and prayed, hoping my parents would change thier mind and any one of them taking up responsibility, unfortunately, that didn't happen, and I lost the addmision....
Aunty why you dey cry na,na where you dey go,the tricycle (keke) driver's voice brought me to the present be day,,,. T Junction,I said,na #70 oh,he said,I entered on my way to father's house and was gazing at the environment, asking the wind, the tress, the sun and every other earthly element why I was so unlucky....
