The group stages of the 2024 African Cup of Nations AFCON currently going on in Cote'dvoire came to an end last night. The group stage saw 54 matches been played across the six groups from A-F.
This year's continental showpiece have changed the dynamics as we saw some acclaimed underdog teams putting up upset to the bigger boys of the competition.
This was evident in Equatorial Guinea's 4-0 annihilation of host country, Cote'dvoire in match day three of the competition that show the hosts relying on a sleep-off of Ghana to confirm their progression to the next phase.
In group B, the Black Stars of Ghana were sent parking by the Sharks of Cape Verde who treated the West African team with a 2-1 win in the opening group games. The Southern African team went on to make it to the Knock Out phase as group leaders.
In group D, it was another abysmal performance from the Foxes of Algeria who finished bottom of the group with just two points. The North African team have not won an AFCON game since their triumph in 2019.
At the end of the group stage matches, two top teams from the six groups were joined by four best third place team to complete the "sedecim" for the Knock Out Stage. Here is a full fixtures for the Knock Out Stage:
