Mother! Mother!!, oh! you are here,
I need some answers,
Yesterday you named me the apple of your eyes,
But i have been told from school that i am not even a fruit,
When someone asked for your duty,
Your priority, you mentioned my name,
But today, there is a man outside the gate,
Sermons, that i was born for hell,
Judging by the braids from my hair,
The length of my gown, the size of my skirt,
Why do you all do this,
Why all these pressure, these confussion,
Yesterday, you told me to be wary of adults,
And today you motivate me to run into the arms of your favourite one,
If Childhood was the begining,
And now at this age, shouldn't we be there yet?
I watch you still dream about things,
And wish to turn the hands of time,
If a child is ignorant, shouldn't there be answers waiting for them,
Rather than a scream and certain philosophies to instill fear,
When i questioned why a man would claim to love god more than himself,
You told me it was time for bed,
And after so many years,
You still kneel within corners to ask the same questions,
You still read and scream and threaten,
As justification for the same ignorance we share,
Hello, mother, i saw you the other day,
Begging god for the same things you prayed for fifty years ago,
And i could have asked more questions,
But it is time,
To tell my kids that ask the same questions that i asked, that it is time for bed,
"EXCERPT"
