RESTRICTION

The put me on a pedestal

Telling me I can do it

Restricting my ability

With their actions and words

Yet they are cheering me on

When in reality

They are just waiting for my fall

With tied up wings

I am asked to soar

With muffled breathe

I am asked to roar

Each time I stand

I find a thousand and one reasons

To fall

A million reasons

To stay down

You can do this “but”

The Big Bang theory

They try to sell me

Listing people that tried

Forgetting to include

Those that succeeded

Listing many failed processes

Forgetting to change

The pattern

I refuse to be

Restricted

I refuse to be

Their object of amusement

Even if my wings are tied up

Or clipped off my shoulders

I will take a dive

A bold dive

I will stand

With sore feet

I am not stereotyped

I have my story to tell

Restricted nor restrained

I won’t give up
