The Federal Government (FG) on Thursday said that it will not cave in to the demand by the members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to be settled the backlog of salaries withheld during the ongoing strike.
Newsbreak.ng reports that the government through the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, described the strike ‘no-work-no-pay’ policy as the major obstacle in the FG-ASUU negotiation.
The minister, while addressing the State House correspondents in Abuja, said ASUU have not called off the strike because of their demand that all salaries during the industrial action be paid, a request the minister said the government turned down for sometimes now can not be settled now.

According to him, other issues had been sorted out with the union.
Adamu, however, said that four of five unions in the tertiary institutions across Nigeria had agreed to call off strike within the next one week, stressing that such a decision can only be officially announced after meeting with their executives.
Meanwhile, he commended the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) for calling off its own strike.
ASUU has been on strike since February 14
Reacting to this, the people raise alarm the federal government should settle with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) so that students could go back to school.
