Senator representing Benue North-East Senatorial District, His Excellency, Gabriel Suswam has called on his constituents to reject the Muslim - Muslim Presidential ticket put forward by the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2023 elections.
The immediate past Benue State Governor said the emergence of a Muslim president and Muslim vice president of Nigeria will directly tamper with the diversity and structural balance of the country.
He made the call yesterday in Adikpo, headquarters of Kwande LGA, before representatives of women, youths elders and traditional rulers where he distributed assorted fertiliser brands to them, having earlier flagged off the exercise in Katsina-Ala.
According to him the choice of a Muslim - Muslim ticket by APC represents the height of insensitivity and is a deliberate attempt to sideline Christians from the topmost decision making hierarchy in the country.
He added that should that be allowed to happen it will reduce Christians in Nigeria to such an inferior status as will undermine the relative parity currently obtainable between adherents of Christianity and Islam as the two major religions in the country.
Suswam stressed further that the existing status quo which has always had a Christian paired with a Muslim or the other way round for the two topmost political offices in the country must be maintained in the best interest of all, saying that the current APC presidential pairing of Bola Tinubu and Kashim Shetima portends ill for Nigeria and should be rejected by all who mean well for the country.
In seperate responses, State Vice Chairman of the PDP for Benue North-East, Hon Azua Avough Ashongo council Chairmen for Katsina-Ala and Kwande, Hons. Atera Alfred and Orjiir Gbande respectively, representatives of women, youths and the traditional councils of the two local government areas thanked Senator Suswam for the gesture which they said will boost agricultural production in their areas, pledging also to always make such political choices as will be in the best interest of Nigeria and her peoples.
The Senator was accompanied to the occasion by PDP State Exco members in the persons of State Vice Chairman, Azua Ashongo, Organising Secretary, Moses Audu Legal Adviser, Barr. Mue Clement Publicity Secretary, Bemgba Iortyom, Asst. Auditor, Terna Mpen, Asst.
