PROTOCOL

My fellow compatriots, I have the pleasure to address you this morning as we gather to celebrate the successful completion of your national service. I heartily felicitate with you for accomplishing this great feat- your fatherland is proud of you all. I also applaud you for the resilience and dogged commitment you demonstrated over the past one year in overcoming your initial fears and anxiety about the State and the task ahead of you. You remained behind while some of your colleagues relocated, and have served the State diligently and faithfully.

I equally commend you for the beautiful and colourful parade you just conducted which has thrilled all the dignitaries who have come here to share this joyful moment with you.

In line with the lofty objectives of the NYSC Scheme and vision of its founding fathers, you were deliberately posted away from your states of origin and geo-political zones, to broaden your understanding of the country and to stand you in good stead as tomorrows leaders who will always promote the national unity and integration of Nigeria.  Over the past one year, you have co-habited peacefully with members of your host communities and no doubt seen for yourselves that we are not so different after all. Whatever negative impressions you possibly had about other Nigerians prior to your service year has no doubt been eliminated.

Gentlemen Corps members, I urge you to go on with the spirit of selfless service, hard work and patriotism you have displayed thus far. By adding these outstanding virtues to your academic credentials, you will definitely stand tall among your peers and also surmount the myriads of challenges that may confront you as you sojourn into life. It is also, only by so doing that we as a people can actualize our collective aspiration for a virile and egalitarian nation in the no distant future

I am particularly impressed with the fascinating and heartwarming reports of the community development projects you executed as groups and individuals which have contributed to the development of Taraba State. In that regard, some outstanding ones among you have been awarded today. I congratulate and appreciate you all for your service to the State and for imbibing the tenets of the NYSC Scheme which is about the promotion of national unity and development.

May I encourage as many of you that are willing, to stay back to do so and make the most of the rich economic potentials of the state. Under the Rescue Agenda of my administration, Taraba State is fast becoming one of the strongest economies in the North-East region with notable giant strides in Education, Health, Agriculture and Infrastructure to mention a few areas.

Having said that, I will like to express satisfaction over the fruitful partnership that exists between the NYSC and the Taraba state Government in all ramifications. May I use this medium to reassure the NYSC family that we shall not relent in carrying out our statutory roles within our available resources to assist the Scheme execute its projects and policies and also create an enabling environment for Corps members deployed to the state to perform their duties optimally. Accordingly, I am still mindful of the commitment I made towards ensuring that the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp receives needed attention with regards to its facilities for proper hosting of orientation courses in no distant future.

Once again, I congratulate our young patriots who are exiting the service of the NYSC Scheme today and thank you all for your service.

I also want to appreciate our security agencies, local government chairmen, traditional leaders and other stakeholders for their support to the NYSC and for working for the peace and progress of Taraba State.

Thank you all and God bless you.
