Like the iron of a timekeeper strick me you the sadden news of your death.
I woke up at an early hour to cry from my parents.
I could hear the ribs of mom making horrible noise as she sobs from the parlor.
I bowled my head pitifully and I pressed the power button of the system to make sure the picture on the screen was not the reason for her tears, yet the voice came into the air louder than earlier.
I thought she was kneeling to the wall till I heard my father and the children sobbing and calling a name loud in the tone of cry "THANKGOD" where are you? Hmm,, like a block of cold ice came on me the pain afresh and pierce my heart. My loving brother whose memory can never be easiest from the blueprint of time.
Like the tune of the songbirds, I recalled vividly how cold and strong his voice was whenever he is talking to me, I gave my ears 👂 to the melody of his voice in giving advice like the people of old. The pain came afresh like the morning wine and intoxicated everyone that drew close to it...
I guess the pain never really goes away with time. I think all we need to do is to learn to live with it and get used to it like our tradition, but it never really leaves us like the season that came and gone.
In my family, every 25th November is like the moment of the Biafra war, it has been a very pathetic day, for the last ten years.
The day came as though it will never go again,
It rain down pains like the season rain,
It brings time to stay like the time of Joshua,
The tears continue dropping and the pain case not,
The day holds and brings nothing but sad memories to the family and the entire Otakpa community.
As the bride was clothing with this pain and unbearable memory.
The time came and gone
The season came and gone
Rain fell and stopped
Sunshine and darkness came
But your pain and the memory of us never left us.
I have come to the understanding of the fact that that which has happened must be accepted that it was a DARK MOMENT. Even though it is a bitter pill to swallow in fate.
On a fateful day, that the sun came out in the company of stars around my family, an unforgettable date in the month of November. Two weeks to 25 November ten years ago,
My younger brother complaint to my Dad about toothache and was taken to the hospital immediately but things seems to worsen and he was referred from hospital to hospital till we ended up in a teaching hospital Enugu state.
Like rain on the rock so is the treatment is to him, the sickness refused all kinds of drugs and treatment. After Six Days in the teaching hospital without improvement and knowledge of what was wrong with him, we ordered for his discharge to Awo in where he passed on after three days. Exactly 12.00am on the 25/11/2012
The death of the little boy ThankGod brought fatigue to the community.
Oh! Brother who do leave your Assignment, vision and ambition for?! who knows the vow you made with your God. ThankGod, your death is an elegy event which kept us in a sleepless night; oh death! Why have you cheated us this way! we miss you from the bottom of our broken hearts. We wish you were here with us. We love you but the father (God) who loves you the most is in haste, yet we never thought you were gone forever brother (ThankGod). We thought you were just sleeping, oh death! Oh, death!! What have we done to deserve this?
MEMORIAL!
I've been so quiet and refused to give in to the excruciating moment of grief beclouding me, but the more I do, the deeper I'm trapped in the throes of psychological trauma. I beg God to let this cup pass me by but as a human, I'm still left with its spot stitched up in my memory!
I continue to wonder if it was true, but still compelled to admit that it has been twelve years now and no sad news is heard anywhere any day! My nights were mostly characterized by severe thoughts about the essence of life and the gravity of death -as a punishment spelled out on humanity for disobedience. I could suggest if I were to, that the good ones shouldn't see the tusk of death except those who still practice evil!
I could still see at a distance where I could have been by now if you were here! The scriptures are not less in meaning when it says: there is time for everything Eccl. 3:1-8. I, therefore, hang my sight on God to see us through in this evil world as we journey without you.
THE ATTRIBUTE
The evening has come all the fowls were returning to their abode, the wide animals were mounted in their places of rest; dad and mom are back and the rest of the brothers and sister are here but we can’t find you among us. Please where are you? When are you coming back? We have started missing you already. Is your own evening yet to come? Or you don’t want to come home tonight or you have forgotten that your friends are waiting for you to play! The day has broken and we can’t still see you, are you not coming back home? How far have you gone? is it beyond the cloud or beyond the sea? How much is the transport fee so that I can come and see you for one because I can’t keep missing and be waiting on the long world queue without catching sight of your shadow, to know where you are staying at the list?
Oh my God! I never knew a day will come when the darkness will take charge of the day, I never knew a day will come in my own time that all the news I could be heard is that of your death. I never knew the word “no more” is still existing until this fateful morning when I have to say goodnight to you, my brother. when it was barely 10:00am thankgod can’t you hear me knocking again!? I just come to ask how you are doing, have you traveled? Were you not the one that asked me to come today?! Has day not brake in your place? Better mind yourself because I don’t take an expensive joke; tell me! Where are you? Hmmm…, so you have gone! How I wish I can say to heaven I beg for another chance to see you again, I never wish to lose you this soon, I thought we were going to see as plain sometimes to accomplish out plain, I never thought you were going to leave this soon. You left us without saying goodnight to anyone neither goodbye nor wave at anybody!? Who do you leave an unfilled vacuum for!? What of your unsolved assignment? I find it difficult to say goodnight when the sun is set my brother take care till we meet to part no more…
You have lived a life beyond words and vision; you have acted positively and this is true of your life, you have manifested in your great step which left an indelible footprint on the sand of time. Your departure was so sudden and tragic to everyone around and it is beyond human comprehension. THANKGOD! I wish I could turn the hand of time to enjoy every bit of you again. My brother, tears cannot explain our pain nor words express our loneliness and sorrow; only God can tell exactly how we feel about you. Since we cannot do otherwise, we say may your gentle soul rest in perfect peace in the bosom of the lord Amen. Till we meet again Goodnight!!!!
