President Muhammadu Buhari says the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), presently standing trial, runs opposite to the doctrine of separation of powers between the Executive and Judiciary.

The president instructed the 93-year-old statesman:
“You’ve made an extremely tough demand on me as leader of this country. The implication of your request is very serious.
” In the remaining six years, in view that I became President, no person would say I have confronted or interfered in the work of the Judiciary.
” God has spared you, and given you a clear head at this age, with very sharp memory.
”A lot of people half of your age are burdened already. But the demand you made is heavy. I will reflect onconsideration on it.”
While stressing his coverage of non-interference with the Judiciary, President Buhari said when Kanu jumped bail, bought arrested and used to be introduced back to the country, “I stated the fantastic thing was to problem him to the system.
”Let him make his case in court, alternatively of giving very poor impressions of the country from outside. I sense it’s even a favour to give him that opportunity.”
The president condoled with Amaechi, who lately buried his wife, praying that her soul would rest in peace.
The nonagenarian had described the situation in the Southeast as “painful and pathetic,” lamenting that ”businesses have collapsed, training is crumbling, and there is fear everywhere”.
He pleaded for a political, rather than navy solution, soliciting for that if Kanu was once launched to him as the solely First Republic Minister nevertheless alive, “he would no longer say the matters he had been saying”.
He stressed that he may want to manipulate Kanu, “not because I have anything to do with them (IPOB), but I am distinctly respected in Igbo land today.”
Amaechi stated twice he had interfaced with Nnamdi Kanu in the past, and the latter rescinded orders formerly given on civil disobedience.
