DON’T Give Up On Your Dreams/destiny- leaders persevere by pastor akinola akinyemi

Excerpt on the teaching- LEADERSHIP VACANCY.

Text:Judges 8:4-6

Life could be very challenging.

And most people in the path of destiny because of this challenges give up on their dreams, and hence not becoming the leader God has destined them to be.

Thomas Edison said Many of life’s failures are people who didn’t realize how close they were to success when they gave up-

Not given up on your God given desires, goals, dreams ,relationships is what makes you end up successful and be the leader you are destined to be.

Life is a marathon is not a sprint.

Running can be a lot of Fun, most especially doing a long race- like marathon ; with heavy prize and doing it in a company of friends.

We begins with excitement, Even eating, drinking, laughing, meeting new friends and bonding, some even taking selfie

But most times as the race progresses, the mood changes, people don’t laugh again, not taking selfie again, loses friends, left behind etc

And at the end, only few who persevered remains.

What is PERSEVERANCE?

Someone said;

- Perseverance is the hard work you do after you get tired of doing the hard work you already did.

- Perseverance is a steady continuation in a course of action in spite of difficulties or discouragement from others.

Someone who doesn’t easily give in when confronted with an obstacle while moving towards an ultimate goal will always emerge has a leader.

- perseverance is the quality of character which doesn’t allow one to succumb to circumstances or succumb under tryer or opposition.

3 things to note about PERSEVERANCE from the Bible( Rev. 3:10-11).

1. God hate it when we give up in life.

He commanded us to persevere.

Rev. 3:10- “Because you have kept My command to persevere...”

2. PERSEVERANCE IS WHAT YOU ALREADY HAVE AND ITS THERE TO KEEPS YOU GOING.

Rev. 3:11- “Behold, I am coming quickly! Hold fast what you have, that no one may take your crown.

3. PERSEVERANCE QUALIFY YOU TO BECOME THE LEADER GOD HAS DESTINED YOU TO BE.

Before God those who persevere are called overcomer and will always inherit something- Rev 21: 4-7

God’s promises, plans and purpose, dreams he put in your heart that will make you end up as a leader he’s destined you are inherited through perseverance.

Perseverance is not the same as endurance or long suffering.

Endurance is ability to hold on but perseverance is being able to make progress not just holding on but to advance in-spite of the test or opposition.

Perseverance doesn’t just absorb the pressure but moves through the pressure.

HOW DO YOU DEVELOP AND RELEASE THE ABILITY TO PERSEVERE?

Luke 5:17-20

7 STEPS TO DEVELOP AND RELEASE THE ABILITY TO PERSEVERE.

1. UNDERSTANDING AND PURSUING GOD’S WILL.

Luke 5 :17 -“And the power of the Lord was present to heal them. “

2. CERTAINTY OF PURPOSE.

Luke 5 Verse 17 -18

We usually persevere when our questioning is strong enough.

It serves as a motivator to keep on track and persevere.

3. STRONG HOPE

Understanding God’s will and having a certainty of Purpose, birth in them; strong hope.

Romans 5:5

5 And hope maketh not ashamed;

4. STRONG STAYING POWER OR WHAT PEOPLE CALLED Willpower –

And most times this staying power comes in not just believing in God ability but also in your self; your ability.

They picked up their friend with strong Hope; expectation that their friend will receive a miracle

But

As they moved with hope, they came against REALITY.

No matter how strong your hope or desire is, reality is going to hit you in the face.

The reality;

They could find no way to Jesus.

The arrived there with definiteness of Purpose- Jesus was there, they could hear his voice.

They could hear others who had already received their own miracle shout for joy.

But there hope is met with a reality; what’s the reality; they couldn’t get in.

YOU NEED A STAYING POWER.

Luke 5:19

19 And when they could not find how they might bring him in, because of the crowd,

The good news is that; the problem was not Jesus, the problem is the crowd.

Jesus-is still there and the Bible said.....his power is present to heal.

The problem is a human problem and not divine.

It’s not every time we confronted challenges that we should conclude what we are doing isn’t God’s will.

It is not God stopping them to achieve their desire, its human challenges.

My advice is, don’t ever let crowd keep you away from your dream.

Don’t allow people( their anger, frustration , inability)or situations to push you away from your hope.

5. FLEXIBILITY OF PLANS.

Luke 5: 19

Do they returned home?

They didn’t return home, they didn’t complain, they resolve to move on.

They went up on the housetop- this is the Spirit of PERSEVERANCE.

If the door is shut, try the windows, if the windows is shut, try the roof.

Many times we ask God to do something and we fix our eyes that it has to happen only one way and if it doesn’t happen that one way we give up.

Not this people.

6. NOT BEEN AFRAID OF FAILURE.

Learn to love failure; this will make you to be a risk taker.

Lik 5: 19

Don’t Be Afraid to Fail – Perseverance comes from failing and getting up again.

Many of life’s failures are people who didn’t realize how close they were to success when they gave up- Thomas Edison.

7. SURROUND YOURSELF WITH THE RIGHT PEOPLE.

Luke 5: 18-19

To learn to preserve, build a network of support of right people around you.

You will succeed!
