How APPLE (A story) By Sophy Bless,

My marital problem started the day hubby saw me hugging an old coursemate, David. David and I were very close back then in the university, we read together and hangout on a regular, but we never dated as our friendship was educational based. We did more as a team than as individuals.

After school, David traveled out for his Masters program and we lost touch, for over 4 years.

My husband, Paul and I decided to get some body sprays at a Mall down town when I bumped into David, honestly, the excitement was high that  I almost forgot I was with my hubby.

"David Peterside," I shouted.

"Melody!!! It's a lie," he responded.

We ran into each others arms, hugging so tightly. I was super excited to see David. We exchanged numbers, I introduced him to hubby and we left after catching up for a few minutes.

It was obvious, Paul's mood changed immediately but he tried to smile, after getting the body sprays we drove home, Paul and I made dinner and we sat in the living room watching a movie, then my phone beeped. It was a WhatsApp text from David.

"Melolo!" As he fondly called me.

"David the great. It was nice meeting you today," I replied.

"It was my pleasure, darling. How is your husband?" David asked.

"Oh he's great oh, he's here with me."

"That's how you got married without me knowing. You know, I always thought that would be us someday but I guess life happened," he responded.

"What can I say? Well I know you'll be settling down soon with a beautiful woman, I trust you," I teased.

"I don hear you oh, Melolo when do we see nah? We have a lot to catch up on."

I wasn't sensitive to know that although David and I were best of friends back then, time had changed and we couldn't possibly be that close as we used to be before. I fixed a time where we both could see and catch up, I told Paul about it and didn't really give any attention to his cold "okay" response.

Slowly, I created good space for David in my life. Slowly, Paul noticed and Drew away from me gradually. Dave and I spoke at length on phone, we chatted a lot too.

David and I built a bond, at this point, David couldn't help but tell me he had always been in love with me and that the love has been awakened again since we got talking. This conversation was on chat.

I laughed and teased him about it, thinking it was nothing serious. I told him we would see and talk during the weekend.

Being that Paul, my husband, was the quiet type, I didn't really notice when he drew that far away from me. Little did I know he had been following my chats with David.

Paul who couldn't stay 3 days without us having our "alone" time, didn't touch me for 3 weeks till I made advances and he pushed me away. This was when I knew something was wrong.

Being the outspoken type, I said to him, "what's up with you now, it's been ages since you touched me, hope all is well. He kept mute till I pressured him.

"What is wrong with you, Paul. Speak up."

"David is what is wrong with me! Your sudden closeness with him is what is wrong, how you spend hours chatting with him is what's wrong.  How you create time to see him is all wrong. You do all these at the expense of this marriage. You are married to me for God sake, you're totally insensitive. Only heaven knows if you haven't done more with him and now you come asking what is wrong right?" Paul said as he walked out on me.

Ever since then, Paul found it difficult to trust me. I gave David some distance after then but it meant little or nothing to Paul.

I created this mess, it's left to me to fix it.

The end.
