SENATOR GEORGE AKUME MOURNS LATE BRIGADIER GENERAL DOMINIC ONEYA, FORMER MILITARY ADMINISTRATOR OF BENUE STATE

 


The Honourable Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Senator Dr. George Akume has commiserated  with the family, the Nigerian Army, and the government and people of Agbarho,Ughelli North in Delta State over the passing of Brigadier General Dominic Obukadata Oneya (Rtrd) who died at the age of 73. 


Senator Dr. George Akume deeply mourns General Dominic Obukadata Oneya who meritoriously served the government of Nigeria and the people of Benue State as Military Administrator (MILAD) from August 1998 to May 1999. 


The Honourable Minister has described Late General Dominic Oneya as a well trained Nigerian officer who distinguished himself in the service of his military career as a soldier. 


As an Instructor at the 4 Division of the Nigerian Training School between 1972-1973,and at the Nigerian Military Training College,Jaji between 1975-1977 respectively, Late General Dominic Oneya served with a touch of excellence, discipline,patriotism and commitment to the objectives of manpower training and development of the Nigerian Army.  


As the Commandant of the Nigerian Army Training School, Zaria,1985-1987;Directing Staff,Command and Staff College,Jaji,1987-1989 and Directing Staff,Ghana Armed Forces,Teshe, Ghana,1989-1991,Late General Dominic Oneya impacted positively on the bilateral military relations between Ghana and Nigeria. 


As the Military Administrator(MILAD) of Benue State between August 1998 to May 1999, Late Brigadier General Dominic contributed immensely to the success of the 1998-1999 military-democratic transition process which ushered in the fourth republic in Nigeria and Benue State in particular. 


Late General Dominic Obukada Oneya who has earned major service honours as a gallant soldier will be greatly remembered for his humility, kindness, patriotism and good Christian life. He will be fondly missed by all sports and football lovers who cherished his contributions to the sports sector, having served as the Chairman of Nigeria Football Association(NFA)


On behalf of his family, friends, colleagues,well wishers and the Federal Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Senator Dr. George Akume prayed God to grant the soul of Late General Dominic Oneya eternal rest,while asking God to comfort the family of the deceased and to provide them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
